Fair Housing Exhibition
CVOEO’s Fair Housing Project recognizes that inclusive, Fair Housing is a complex & deeply personal topic. That’s why we often partner with community & arts organizations to explore what these ideas mean to our community.
Creative, community-generated takes on home can teach us a lot as housing advocates about how we talk about housing and develop homes, and education about inclusive and Fair Housing sometimes requires a slower, explorative prompt. That is why for many years, CVOEO’s Fair Housing Project has partnered with art and community organizations to help facilitate deeper conversations about home and housing. You can see some of those exhibitions below.

CVOEO’s Fair Housing Project & Arts So Wonderful 2022 Fair Housing Month show
To celebrate April Fair Housing Month, Arts So Wonderful and the Fair Housing Project of CVOEO invited artists of all ages to respond to the following question, “What makes a thriving, inclusive community?”
ArtsSoWonderful is a unique non-profit visual and performing arts program for youth ages 14-25, and has a gallery located at the University Mall. ASW helps inspire youth to reach their goals through our community programs, which explore all forms of art including music, mural creation, arts & dance classes. For Fair Housing Month of 2022, Artists were invited to consider the important ways the Fair Housing Act continues to shape our communities through the medium and visual language of their choice. The works were exhibited at the Arts So Wonderful Gallery in the University Mall of South Burlington until the end of June, 2022.

Welcome to HeART & Home: Celebrating Inclusive Communities, an online exhibition for 2020. This partnership between the Fair Housing Project of CVOEO, ONE Arts and the T. W. Wood Gallery invited artists to explore what makes a community thrive in the context of fair housing and inclusivity.
Kate Ruddle
“These objects are made from sewing tests that I did for the rv skirt. There were times when I had to test my stitches, grommets, and machine, and so scraps were left over. As the first winter came to end, I rented an art studio and made these tiny fabric sketches from the RV skirt scraps. My art seemed a luxury after working on a utilitarian object that helped my husband and I survive the cold. “
Sabah Abbas
Sabah's work is inspired by Iraqui culture and history, and by the traditional Arabic art style.

Stephanie Kossman
“I chose to participate in Fair Housing Month because housing insecurity is a devastating challenge for many that have experienced domestic violence. “ Printmaker Stephanie Kossman uses creates abstract monotypes to explore the resilience, capacity, and potential of her subjects.

Linda Hogan
Linda Hogan shares images that illustrate fair housing for her. The pictures include renovations overseen by Downstreet Housing of buildings on Main Street in Montpelier that have been “derelict for decades”. All units are rented and affordable including Section 8..
Holly Hauser
"Over the years, especially the last four, the plight of immigrants beckons us to advocate, welcome and offer safe haven, home.”
Ted Wimpey
"I believe that enacting and enforcing good fair housing laws as well as creating open and welcoming communities has positive effects in many aspects of our personal and social life and some of these connections may not seem to be connected on the surface.” After 30 years of tenants’ rights and fair housing advocacy, Ted Wimpey uses spontaneous, digital abstraction to make connections between seemingly disparate concepts.
Corrine Yonce
